A BIG thank you!

I know, I know, you probably weren’t expecting me to launch the site with the default WP theme after all that wait… The fact is I got distracted in the last two months and didn’t spend enough time on building my own site. But something BIG happened to me today and I just couldn’t resist the temptation to write a blog post about it. So what is that?

Yep, that’s right, my Section Widget plugin has won the Grand Prize of this year’s WordPress Plugin Competition! But as you might have guessed, a lot of folks have helped me in the process of developing this plugin, and I would love to take this chance to thank all of them:

  • The biggest thank you should definitely go to my boss, Novak. If he didn’t bring up this fantastic idea and generously allow me to spend my time on this, this plugin wouldn’t have existed at all! And thank you for that amazing picture ;)
  • Of course, we work as a team here at OLT, I have spent a lot of time brainstorming with my coworkers, especially Enej, Michael and Scott. They have given me lots of feekbacks and interesting ideas for improving the plugin. And I just couldn’t thank Scott enough for telling me about this competition!
  • Thanks Brian Lamb and everyone else in the office for spreading the words
  • Special thanks to @bachlau and Jonathan for the ReTweets!
  • Thanks everyone who have helped me to test the plugin, especially those who have filed bug reports on the wordpress.org forum!
  • And…. a BIG thank you to the 3712 people who have downloaded the plugin! Without you guys I would have no motivation to maintain this plugin!

Of course, I must thank all the judges for their time as well as the sponsors of the competition! I’d also encourage everyone to checkout all the other cool plugins in the competition!

    Chan,

Not only did you win but you are starting a blog as well, double bonus. Novak’s blog kicked me over here, and he was just suggesting how he was going to start blogging about the development at OLT, and then you start as well this week. WPMu development for education and beyond just got a little richer this week. You all are doing amazing things at UBC, and hacks like me need to learn from the ninjas.

    Congratulations!

    Hi Godfrey,
The folks that are in this funny business, like myself, may have good ideas, but without sharp mind that can-code, ideas typically stay … ideas.
Thanks for bringing my modest proposal into reality and then taking it way beyond ;)
Honestly, this plug-in is a miracle for anyone who runs WordPress as a CMS.

    Hi there Chan!

First of all, nice little widget. But SHAME ON YOU for only having the default WP theme – how ironic ;o)

Anyway, take a look at what I have done here -

    http://www.brainwavingtv.com

I have used this together with the Advanced Text Widget. I have just a few problems / questions -

The Advanced Text has this as a typical code -

The RSS that it is showing is somewhat crude. I’d like to make a few changes (I realise this isn’t strictly within the remit of your plugin but I would be so grateful if you might help!)

    1) The bullet points on the tabs are quite unnecessary – any idea why they are showing?

    2) Would it be possible to make the links change colour when the mouse is hovered over them?

    3) Would it be possible to make actual COMMENTS show in grey rather than the same white colour as eveything else?

This would all go to make my use of the tab work so much better. If anyone would like to respond to me, I’d love to hear from you – d.hart (at) djh-graphics.com – thanks very much, and well done Chan!

Congratulations on the win. Looking forward to publishing my review of the plugin :) What do you plan on doing with the cash?
